The New York Rangers have decided to keep Brett Howden on the roster during their mandated NHL break.

With a lot of NHL teams sending down their youngsters to give them extra playing time, the Rangers think that the rest will do the slumping Howden more good. Howden had four goals and 12 points in his first 20 games but the last 27 games have not been kind with only seven helpers and nary a goal. "Rest is more important for him," coach David Quinn said. "He’s been here for a long time, he’s had a good first half."

The New York Rangers have sent defenseman Ryan Lindgren back to the minors.

A lot of teams are sending their youngsters down to the AHL when they start their mandated five day break in the NHL schedule. Lindgren was recalled on Tuesday and could be back in the NHL when the Rangers return to action on January 29. Lindgren was pointless in three games with a minus-one rating and six penalty minutes.

Henrik Lundqvist moved into sixth place by himself in career wins with 446.

Lundqvist passed the great Terry Sawchuk with the win. Lundqvist is having a so-so season fantasy-wise as he is 15-12-7 with a 3.01 GAA and a .908 save percentage. Next on the list is Curtis Joseph at 454. Lundqvist is the only non-Canadian goaltender in the top-13 on the list.

Look for Cam Talbot to get the start in goal for Edmonton Sunday.

Mikko Koskinen picked up the start on Saturday and with the Oilers on the back-end of back-to-back games, it only seems logical that Talbot would get the start. He is 9-13-2 this season with a 3.17 GAA and a .896 save percentage, not exactly stats that will win you hockey pools.

One game after he was a healthy scratch, Anthony Duclair had a strong game Saturday.

Duclair was a healthy scratch on Friday but coach John Tortorella put him back in the lineup Saturday and was rewarded with the outstanding effort. "That Duclair looks like a million bucks," Tortorella said. "Every shift he looks like a threat. Gets to the goal … shot wide, stickhandled into the corner. It’s just so aggravating. Not just him, it’s just really frustrating to me." Duclair was moved up to the top line in the third period, replacing Cam Atkinson on the Artemi Panarin and Pierre-Luc Dubois line with his excellent play as Atkinson dropped to the third unit alongside Nick Foligno and Alexander Wennberg. Duclair has 10 goals and 15 points in 41 games this season.

Oliver Kylington's second goal of the season was the game-winner Saturday.

The talented blueliner was selected in the second round of the 2015 Draft (60th overall) and was a polarizing player as many scouts saw him as a first round pick while many others saw him as a third rounder. He has two goals and four points in 25 games this season as he tries to establish himself as a solid NHL blueliner. While we cannot recommend him at this time, he has some offensive upside.

Johnny Gaudreau scored once and added an assist to extend his points streak to 11 games.

Gaudreau is having a career season with 29 goals and 73 points in 50 games and he has been especially hot of late with 10 goals and 23 points in the 11-game streak. The talented winger's career high is 84 and he should smash that mark in the first or second week in February unless he has a long slump. He is second in points in the NHL and is in the race for the Hart Trophy.
