NASCAR | LFR goes with DiBenedetto and Toyota in 2019 - Rotoworld.com

Latest Headlines

Leavine Family Racing (LFR) will begin fielding Toyota Camrys in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series with driver Matt DiBenedetto piloting the No. 95 Camry in 2019.

The partnership with Toyota starts next season and will include support from Toyota Racing Development (TRD), who will build the team’s engines and provide technology, data and technical assistance. DiBenedetto is a four-year veteran of the NASCAR Cup Series, who caught the eyes of many throughout the racing industry after capturing a hard-fought sixth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016. The result was the first of four career top-10 finishes for the 27-year old. In addition to working with Toyota and TRD, Leavine Family Racing has also entered into a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing, which will provide chassis for the No. 95 Camry.-LFR

Jamie McMurray has suffered crash damage or mechanical problems in three of his last four Kansas Speedway races – finished in the 30s each time.

McMurray crashed and failed to finish in this spring’s KC Masterpiece 400 on Lap 253. He was 34th in this race last year. Kyle Larson will likely command more resources this week since he is in playoff contention and that could further affect McMurray’s performance.

In eight starts on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks this year, Alex Bowman has scored two top-10s. The best of these was a ninth at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the World 600.

Considering that Bowman needs a win in order to advance to the next round of the playoffs, two top-10s on 1.5-milers is not very encouraging. If he is moderately priced in a salary cap game, however, he could be a good value.

Denny Hamlin finished fifth in last year’s edition of the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway and was fifth again this spring in the KC Masterpiece 400.

The first five races of the playoffs have been earned by drivers currently in championship contention. Hamlin has a perfect opportunity to play spoiler this week.

Kyle Busch enters the Hollywood Casino 400 with a perfect record of top-10 finishes on the similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks in eight starts.

Three of his eight top-10s on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks were wins and that bodes well for his chances. His worst result on this track type in 2018 came at Kansas, however, with a 10th in this spring’s KC Masterpiece 400.

Brad Keselowski enters the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway with a four-race streak of top-10 finishes on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks that includes a win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Keselowski practically needs another win this week to advance to Round 3 of the playoffs, but Kansas has not been one of his better tracks in recent attempts. He finished 13th in this race last year and was 14th in the spring.

Martin Truex Jr. has scored 14 top-fives in his last 15 races on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks and had another at Homestead-Miami Speedway last year to give him an almost perfect record on the track type.

Truex’s only stumble in the past two years was an accident at Texas Motor Speedway. He has struggled in recent events, but this is his best opportunity to turn things around.

Bobby Earnhardt will return to the XFINITY Series with new sponsors this weekend at Kansas Speedway.

"I'm so excited to be back behind the wheel at Kansas - and with growing support," Earnhardt, son of Kerry Earnhardt and elder brother of Cup Series regular Jeffrey Earnhardt said. "I'll be driving the No. 66 HABCO Toyota for MBM Motorsports. The good news is that more companies are coming on board with HABCO to make Kansas - and other races this season - possible."-Bobby Dale Earnhardt PR

Lilly Diabetes announced Monday that it will not return to Roush Fenway Racing after this season, ending five years with the organization and Ryan Reed, who said he was unsure of his plans for next year.

Reed, who was eliminated from the Xfinity playoffs at Dover, offered his thanks to Lilly Diabetes in a statement and said: "I am ready for the challenge of free agency and putting myself in the opportunity to do what I love, which is win races and be a champion for others that live with diabetes. (Seven)-and-a half years ago when I was diagnosed, I was told I would never drive race cars again. I defied that then and have no doubt will continue to defy that and compete in the sport I love."
